Quite honestly, I didn't think anything could make me more cynical than the 2000 and 2004 elections, but this election tops it. That Democrats could have been fooled into nominating the candidate with the hardest path to victory after the last eight years is almost beyond comprehension.
That he is a demonstrably un-progressive Democratic -- and always has been -- only makes it harder to take.
That the candidate who would easily have won Florida, Texas, Ohio and Pennsylvania, and thereby the Presidency, was chased out by the same media talking heads that gave us the last eight years -- and that this elicited no concern on the part of Obama supporters -- was enough to prompt us to opt out of the process for a while.
In other words, when William Kristol supports one Democrat over another, it's time to take a closer look at the choice. But not enough Democrats did.
And when the media can convince Democrats that the real problem in this primary was the LAST DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENT TO WIN TWO TERMS SINCE FDR it's pretty much time to give up.
Maybe a miracle will happen, for which I'll be glad. But if Obama loses the election by losing Florida and Texas and/or Ohio and Pennsylvania, I hope that those who bought into the latest Big Lie, and cost Democrats the Presidency (again) will own up and explain themselves.
Better yet: if he somehow wins and turns out to be about as progressive as he's always been (which is to say, not at all) we hope his supporters will explain why we still don't have a health care system after ANOTHER eight years.
Oh wait -- it'll be all Bill and Hillary's fault. Of course.

hey that's me!
Tell you what, if we get to that (hopeful) point, you can print out and mail me all the posts from July 2008 - I'll eat those ones for ya.
In the meantime I'm gonna stop paying taxes and send my credit card bills to the government. That's the way it works now, right?
